Twas the Week Before Christmas (A Rockstar Community Fund Adaptation)

‘Twas the week before Christmas, when all through our house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
As Dan and I pondered how to show someone we care,
Considering that our own Christmas tree was still bare;

When in my inbox there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the laptop I flew like a flash,
Tore open that sucker, like it didn’t cost a ton of cash

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
An e-mail from J Money, oh what a dear

He said, in his email, you must act quick!
For the Rockstar Community Fund will be your St. Nick.
To the first 20 responders we will give you some money
So that you can spread Christmas joy, like bread on your honey

I know just the people who need it! said I,
And within a few moments I had my reply;
The Rock Star Community Fund would give us some dough ($),
And we’d sprinkle it on others, like new fallen snow;

To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall!
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!
We scurried to Target, for their toy sale can’t be beat!

We bought lots of toys, and a Christmas Eve Feast;
We drove all the goods to a home full of kids in need;
Not one little child had a heart full of greed;
Each child, adopted, and considered special needs,
Received many gifts as a result of the Rock Star Community’s good deed;

We spoke not a word, but went straight to work,
Sneaking up to the porch, ringing the doorbell, and running off like a jerk;
And away we flew off like the down of a thistle, but I heard them exclaim, ere we drove out of sight,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!

We were SO fortunate to receive some cash from the Rockstar Finance Community Fund to spread a little Christmas cheer this season. It came at the perfect time. We had been thinking about this amazing family in our community. The parents have fostered tons of kids over the last several years, and ended up adopting 6. They blog about their experience here. They put most of the frugal living community to shame in terms of their ability to live off of very little– including living off of food storage for a year. The mom has had cancer TWICE. All of their children have special needs ranging from autism to cerebral palsy to hearing impairment. They are WONDERFUL people, to say the least. They recently learned that they would have to sell their home to pay for one of their daughters medical bills. So, you can imagine, Christmas will probably be a little simple for them this year. Anyway, we were pondering how to help them right when we received an e-mail about the Community Fund and we were fortunate to receive the money to go buy some presents and a Christmas dinner for this family. We got caught up in the moment that we threw in some of our Christmas budget too. After all, it felt like the right thing to do.

We are so blessed to be a part of this personal finance community who, though frugal, is so generous.

Target was having a great deal on toys ($10 off $50) so we bought all the toys there.

M had a BLAST shopping. He’s been watching Elf basically every day, and he kept shouting/singing “I’M IN A STORE AND I’M SINGING! I’M IN A STORE AND I’M SINGING!” making everyone around him giggle. More than one way to spread Christmas cheer! 🙂

Merry Merry Christmas!
